[From a ScorePAD Customer] I know this isn't a ScorePAD problem, but since I've owned this Palm Pilot since early 2000'ish, and about the only thing I use the Palm for anymore is to score baseball games with ScorePAD, that I first bought in 2004 I think, I thought it might be time to get a new Palm Pilot.

To my shock and surprise this morning, the Palm web site says they don't make Palm Pilots any more, just phones. I have no need to buy a phone. So I went to Amazon and eBay looking for a "new" Palm Pilot, preferably the Tungsten C since I like using the mini keypad to enter player roster info for the opponent teams and the numbers, etc., and was shocked to find very, very few new units at all, and those availabe are at prices higher than I paid for mine current one almost 10 years ago. I wouldn't want a used unit just in case it had a worn out screen touchpad.

So, the question for you is, if Palm doesn't make Palm Pilots any more, and it would seem stupid for me to buy a Palm phone and subscribe to a service and have no need for the phone part, what do you recommend for your loyal, long term ScorePAD users to do when their Palm Pilot wears out?

This situation seems to affecting a lot of ScorePAD users. At this point you can do 1 of 3 things:

1. Buy a used Palm (if desperate for something right now). Search sites such as ebay. amazon, buy.com, or overstock.com. There are still some electronic stores that carry Palm OS's but most are only carrying the Palm phones.

2. Score on the PC -- ScorePAD has a desktop scoring software available

3. Wait for the iTouch version and buy an iTouch/iPhone - for more info on this see www.scorepad.com

I'd consider a Windows Mobile device or phone with StyleTap--my Tungsten E2 is exclusively used for scoring and serves me well but that would be my first choice in terms of price and availability.

Really excited about the iPhone version of ScorePad--now if I can get the iPhone through Verizon I'll be all set.

With the Palm Pre imminent, is there any plan to create a version for the next generation of Palm devices running webOS?

Have you had a chance to test Scorepad with the "Classic" app that will be available for the pre?

Thanks!

The only problem with using StyleTap (the last time i looked at the app) is that it does not handle Palm conduits which basically means no syncing between the Palm device and the desktop application. The ScorePad people can correct if I'm wrong. StyleTap is okay if you are only going to score on a handheld device.

I'm with you bluemcduff-can't wait til the iPhone/iTouch version comes out.

That's exactly why I'm not using ScorePad with Styletap--I've even told the StyleTap people so--without conduits I can't use ScorePad as I want to.

I suggested using a Windows Mobile device simply because of cost and availability--I'd love to get an iPhone but AT&T service is terrible compared to Verizon (YMMV but where I live Verizon is best) and the fact that Apple likes to charge an arm and a leg for everything they sell is making me hesitate as well.

I feel may of your pains, I had a very nice Life Drive that crashed in October.  Luckily, I had my Zire 31 as a backup.

If you go on such places as overstock.com or bottomdollar.com you might find devices.  You can also go to e-bay and find quite a few devices.

Personally speaking, the iPhone will be a great upgrade, however, I do hope that the programmers listen to a few of us when it comes to necessary enhancements such as putting balls in front of strikes and outs in front of on base events.

When my contract with Verizon is up, I plan to get the Centro, mainly so I can use this software. But if you are going to IPhone/Touch then maybe I will get an ITouch. How much will the software cost?

Currently ScorePAD is solely focused on iPhone/iTouch development. The new Palm Pre with the webOS is something we may look at in the future assuming they continue to make more devices with that hardware, but right now it seems that iPhone and Blackberry are dominiating the market.

I hope ScorePad will take the time to have ScorePAD certified on the Classic Palm OS emulator for the Palm Pre.  I'm a long time ScorePAD user on various Palm OS smart phones, and I'm frankly being alienated by ScorePAD.  I won't use the iPhone because it's only available on the at&t network, and I prefer the Pre over any BlackBerry...

I can attest that ScorePad does, in fact, work with Classic on the Pre.

Now we just need a WebOS version!

I use ScorePad on a Garmin pocket PC with StyleTap. The Garmin is also my driving navigator for those hard to find baseball fields. Before my Garmin,  I used a Handspring Visor (PalmOS) for ScorePad. Currently, to sync games to my laptop, I beam all my games and rosters from the Garmin to the Visor, then sync my Visor to my laptop. Really, all I'm doing is downloading my games to my laptop for reports, printing, and safe keeping. I don't tend to use my laptop to score games.

Now that the iPhone/iTouch version is out, I may have another reason to purchase an iPhone  Smiley

The iPhone app appears to be complete.  The Palm Pre / Scorepad users on Verizon and Sprint beseech you to begin on Scorepad webOS

Indeed! Consider me to be beseeching!

With the release of the Beta PDK by Palm, it shouldn't be too difficult to port over the version done for the iPhone/iTouch.
